Children’s sailing is important to get it right so that they enjoy it and build their water confidence at the same time.  We aim to create an enjoyable and safe experience for all sailors from the absolute beginners to salty seadogs.  You can rest assured they are in safe hands with our Adventure Activity Licensing Authority stamp of approval and our National Governing Body recognition from the Royal Yachting Association (RYA).  These involve rigorous inspections on a regular basis with many regulations and high standards to be met.  AALA official site

The RYA National Sailing Scheme is a series of children’s sailing courses for those wanting to learn in dinghies and small keelboats. It has been designed to help you enjoy whichever aspect of the sport appeals to you.

Come and learn to sail in the beautiful estuary near Falmouth, Cornwall’s south coast.  These are perfect waters to learn to sail a dinghy.  Good wind and not too much chop!

The RYA recommendation for children’s sailing is to start learning to sail at 8 years.  Under 16s should start learning through the Youth Sailing Scheme.  By learning at a sailing school with the  RYA stamp of approval, you can definitely be assured of being taught by the relevant trained instructors.  Mylor Sailing School has a large fleet of suitable boats, for all levels and follows the strict supervision ratios and follows the RYA’s syllabus for children’s sailing and all other sailing courses.

If your child has any kind of disability or special need then please read here for details on how we can accommodate you.  We have adapted boats and a wheelchair friendly powerboat and you can also contact us for more information or to chat anything through.

No time limits are given for the different Stages, as children learn at very different rates according to their age and confidence. With each of the stages expressed in terms of competencies, it gives instructors the flexibility to sign off each part of the syllabus as they master each skill.  We focus on building water confidence and fun whilst working through the courses so that children will want to continue with their sailing skills.

Too young??  Why not try our Swallows and Amazons fun session that take place on a Sunday.  We take from 6 years and upwards (generally 6 – 12 years) for these children’s sailing sessions and it will boost confidence.  Children will play games, and have fun.
