The RYA Powerboat Level 1 course is an introduction to boating techniques for launching and recovering a boat from a road trailer, everyday boat handling and the use of safety equipment. There are no high speed manoeuvres on the Level 1 course. You will need the RYA Powerboat Level 2 course for this and most people do go straight for this course if aged 12 years and over.
The RYA Powerboat Level 1 course is aimed at young people or those who do not wish to travel at high speeds. Handling a motor boat requires training and skill. Make sure you know all the aspects of a speedboat before you go afloat. There are certain recommended methods for each slow manoeuvre in a powerboat, all of these are listed below. Under 16 year olds should be under the supervision of a responsible adult at all times during boat handling.
If anyone in your party has any kind of disability or special need then please read here for details on how we can accommodate you. We have adapted boats and a wheelchair friendly powerboat and you can also contact us for more information or to chat anything through.
Level 1 is not a pre-requisite for the Level 2 course
