RYA Senior Instructor Course overview:

The Senior Instructor qualification is a 4 day course that marks the transition from managing your own boat to that of being a ‘fleet manager’.  The Senior Instructor course concentrates primarily on on-the-water issues and is practically orientated.  Mylor Sailing School is the perfect venue, due to its superb location in the Carrick Roads and wide variety of courses and equipment. The course includes supervising instructors under your control, practical teaching afloat, fleet management, running shore-based sessions, customer liaison and group discussions under the guidance of one of our very experienced dinghy coaching assessors.  continuous assessment (in a relaxed atmosphere) is based on your ability to plan, organise, and run practical sessions, construct course programmes, manage instructors under your supervision and give your input to shore-based sessions.

What do I need to bring?

At this stage in your sailing career, you are expected to have all of your own clothing and basic safety equipment. If you forget something then we can of course provide this. Please ensure you have the correct minimum requirements in your buoyancy aid pocket that an instructor should always carry. Knife (in good working order), spare cord, whistle, spare shackle, electrical tape. Plus anything else that you think is useful to you.

Can I just pay a deposit to secure my booking?

At the checkout you have the option to either pay in full or click on 'Klana' which is a free payment instalment platform where you can spread the payments.

How old do I need to be to take this course?

You must be 18 years old.

Is access ok as I have a phyiscal extra need?

The access is pretty good. You can see the Accessible Guide to the yacht harbour at the footer of the main website. Please get in touch if you have any further specific questions.

Is there any accommodation near by?

Yes there are a couple of good B and Bs and also camping, there is a link on the footer of the website to all accommodation recommendations.

Can I get to you by public transport?

It is a little tricky to get all the way to us by public transport, but the full details are on the 'About' link on the main menu of the website. If you scroll down a little then there are many options there. What we normally do if you don't have your own transport is check who else is living/staying any where near you so that you can possibly share a lift together. Please get in touch if you need any further information.
