It is recommended by the HSE to refresh your skills annually, especially for those holding the 3 day First Aid at Work qualification. This could be a half day or a full day.

If the first aider does not requalify before the expiry date on their current certificate, they are no longer qualified as a first aider. There is 1 month grace after the expiry of your current certificate to requalify. If the expiry date is more than 1 month, they will not be considered to be competent to act as a first aider in the workplace.
The FAA Reasonable Adjustment and Special Consideration Policy states ‘reasonable adjustment cannot be granted to enable a learner to be awarded the regulated qualification if they would be unable to fulfil a role such as a first aider in the workplace. The trainer/assessor is responsible for ensuring that despite any disability, medical condition or learning need a learner can effectively administer first aid in any real-life-situation without assistance.
