The qualification has been designed to focus on children and young people. This Youth Mental Health course covers areas such as depression, self-harm, eating disorders and bullying.  It will provide the knowledge and skills to identify a potential mental health condition, start a conversation, and provide support and guidance to professional help.

Come and learn in one of our well equipped classrooms right by the water in Mylor yacht harbour, near Falmouth.  Free parking passes available.

This qualification is not intended to enable Learners to diagnose or treat mental health conditions but to signpost them to the appropriate support and guidance. This course will give the Learners the knowledge to identify a person who may have a condition and where a person can go to get help.

Syllabus

A range of First Aid for Mental Health related subjects are covered including:

  • What is first aid for youth mental health?
  • Identifying mental health conditions
  • Stress
  • Mental health conditions
  • Drugs and alcohol
  • First aid action plan for mental health

Certification

A Level 2 Award in First Aid for Youth Mental Health will be issued to the learner, subject to successful assessment. This qualification is valid for three years. Learners would need to complete the full course again to requalify for a further three years.

Assessment

The qualification is assessed through a written assessment paper and the practical demonstration of the first aid action plan for mental health. Learners must successfully pass both parts of the assessment to be awarded the qualification.

Is this an accredited course and qualification?

Yes is it accredited with Ofqual and the RQF, and the First Aid Awards (FAA).

I have a disability, can I still take this course?

Yes you can. We have ramped access 12:1, hearing loop and the car park is levelled access. There are also accessible toilet facilities in the harbour that are coded. We can give you the code on arrival.

How old do you have to be to take this course?

All candidates must be a minimum age of 14 to take this course.

Can you come to our workplace to deliver this course?

Yes we can! If you have a few employees that you would like to train for Mental Health, then why not consider an onsite course? Please get in touch to arrange a date.

How many people can go on this course?

We can take up to 16 people on this course. The course will be between 4 - 16 learners.

Is lunch provided?

No lunch is not provided. You can either bring a packed lunch or there is a great cafe in the harbour. Cafe Mylor does hot food and sandwiches to eat in or takeaway. Hot drinks are provided by us, all sourced from The Cornish Tea and Coffee Company.

Is there a cafe nearby to get some lunch?

Yes! Cafe Mylor and Castaways Restaurant both offer lunches. You can book online for a table which is definitely recommended, especially for Cafe Mylor.

Will this count towards my CPD?

Yes it will. This is an accredited course from RQF and regulated by Ofqual.

Will I get my certificate straight away?

No, this will be sent to you from the recognised awarding authority direct.
