First Aid at Work (FAW) is designed to provide first aiders with the knowledge and skills they need to respond effectively to emergency situations in the workplace.
This course –
- Meets the Health and Safety Executives (HSE) requirements for first aid in the workplace
- Is widely recognised as a level 3 first aid qualification
The FAA Reasonable Adjustment and Special Consideration Policy states ‘reasonable adjustment cannot be granted to enable a learner to be awarded the regulated qualification if they would be unable to fulfil a role such as a first aider in the workplace. The trainer/assessor is responsible for ensuring that despite any disability, medical condition or learning need a learner can effectively administer first aid in any real-life-situation without assistance.
On receipt of a regulated first aid qualification a learner can undertake the important and responsible position of being a first aider in the workplace. FAA have a regulatory responsibility to ensure that as far as possible every learner has access to our qualifications but the trainer/assessor must ensure that a learner has the skills, knowledge and personal attributes to fulfil this role. Along with their qualification a first aider needs other qualities to provide effective first aid including being calm and confident and able to deal with stressful situations, reliable, able to communicate clearly and having leadership skills.
The training covers a range of essential first aid skills that are suitable for larger or higher hazard workplaces, such as construction, manufacturing and some healthcare settings. There are a wide range of skills included in this training that will equip first aiders with the ability to respond quickly and confidently if someone is injured or becomes ill in the workplace.
