Frequently asked questions

My Level 3 First Aid at Work certificate ran out a couple of weeks ago is that ok to do the requalification?

Yes, you have 1 month's grace after the expiry date to take the 2 day requalification course. If it is more than 1 month you are expected to retake the full 3 day course again.

What is the recognised qualification body for this First Aid course?

First Aid Awards (FAA) are an awarding organisation regulated by Ofqual and SQA Accreditation and the qualification sits on the
Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) and the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF)

Will I get my certificate straight away?

No, this will be sent to you from the recognised awarding authority direct.

I have a disability, can I still take this course?

It may be possible to grant a reasonable adjustment for a learner who has a disability, medical condition or learning
need following the FAA Reasonable Adjustment and Special Consideration Policy. For example, assistance could be
given with reading or writing.
Due to the practical nature of the first aid assessment there are physical demands. Learners must be able to get to
the floor unaided and successfully demonstrate all required elements of the practical assessment on their own, with
the casualty on the floor, as in a real-life situation. For example, a learner will need to get to the floor unassisted and
demonstrate effective cardiopulmonary resuscitation on a manikin at floor level.

Where will the course take place?

We have 2 large classrooms here at Mylor Yacht Harbour on Admiralty Quay. We offer hot drinks.

Is lunch included?

No sorry, there is a great cafe in the marina though that does hot meals and sandwiches to eat in or takeaway.

Is there a cafe nearby to get some lunch?

Yes! Cafe Mylor and Castaways Restaurant both offer lunches. You can book online for a table which is definitely recommended, especially for Cafe Mylor.

How old do I have to be to take this course?

The qualification is available to learners aged 14 or over but a learner cannot assume the responsibility of being a
first aider in the workplace until they reach the age of 16.

Will there be a test at the end?

The qualification is assessed through practical demonstration and written assessment and a learner must pass both
assessments to be awarded the qualification.
There is no grading of the assessment, learners pass or are referred.

Can this qualification be part of my CPD?

Yes, refreshers are always recommended on an annual basis for First Aid.

Can I attend just the first 2 days of the 3 day full course?

The two-day requalification course covers all learning outcomes and assessment criteria of the three-day course but
in a shortened length of time. A learner must attend a specific two-day FAW requalification course and cannot attend
just two days of a three-day course
